Despite its seemingly remote location, Darwin is a modern city with lots going on.  Much of Darwin's history revolves around the devastating Cyclone Tracy which flattened the city on Christmas Day 1974.  Darwin has rebuilt though and is the starting point for travelers wanting to see the incredible Kakadu National Park.
